Rodel A. Taton, LL.M., DCL.

Principal Philippine Attorney

Atty. Rodel A. Taton serves as the Principal Philippine Attorney and Head of Legal of TSUBAME IP Philippines, providing legal supervision, strategic counsel, and representation on trademark, patent, utility model, industrial design, copyright, and other intellectual property matters before the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) and the Philippine courts.

He is the Founder of TATON LAW, a full-service Philippine law firm with a well-established practice in intellectual property, commercial law, public international law, constitutional law, and alternative dispute resolution. The Firm regularly represents local and international corporations, law firms, innovators, and rights holders in the registration, prosecution, maintenance, commercialization, enforcement, and litigation of intellectual property rights. Its practice encompasses IP prosecution, office action responses, opposition and cancellation proceedings, licensing and technology transfer transactions, infringement and unfair competition actions, border enforcement, and civil and criminal intellectual property litigation before IPOPHL and the Philippine courts.

Atty. Taton currently serves as the Dean of the Graduate School of Law of San Sebastian College–Recoletos. He holds both a Doctor of Civil Law (DCL) and a Master of Laws (LL.M.). He has completed specialized professional training in intellectual property law, international commercial law, mediation, arbitration, corporate governance, and dispute resolution.

In addition to his intellectual property practice, Atty. Taton has extensive experience in public international law, consumer law, family law, and alternative dispute resolution. He has represented clients in matters involving governmental regulation, election law, media and press freedom, and public interest litigation, providing strategic legal advice where constitutional principles intersect with commercial and regulatory concerns.

Shiela Arboleda Magno, J.D.

Philippine Attorney

Atty. Shiela Arboleda Magno is a Philippine Attorney with TSUBAME IP Philippines, where she assists in the prosecution, protection, enforcement, and management of intellectual property rights in the Philippines. She advises local and international clients on trademark prosecution, brand protection strategies, legal research, intellectual property portfolio management, and related regulatory matters before the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL).

She is likewise an Associate at TATON LAW, where she has been involved in various intellectual property matters, including trademark prosecution, enforcement, opposition and cancellation proceedings, and intellectual property litigation support before IPOPHL and Philippine courts. Her work also includes civil and commercial litigation, providing clients with practical legal solutions where intellectual property rights intersect with broader commercial disputes.

Atty. Magno has completed specialized intellectual property courses and professional development programs offered by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Academy, with training covering international intellectual property law, trademarks, patents, copyright, and related areas of intellectual property administration and enforcement. Her practice combines legal research, regulatory compliance, and strategic intellectual property management to assist clients in protecting and maximizing the value of their intellectual property assets.

Itsuki SHIMBO, Ph.D.

Japanese Patent Attorney

Itsuki SHIMBO is a Japanese Patent Attorney and the Founder of TSUBAME Patent Attorney Firm in Japan. At TSUBAME IP Philippines, he leads the strategic development and oversight of international intellectual property matters, working closely with Philippine attorneys to provide comprehensive solutions in patents, trademarks, industrial designs, copyrights, and cross-border intellectual property strategy.

Dr. Shimbo specializes in life sciences, biotechnology, medical technologies, and international IP protection. He received a Ph.D. in Physiology from Tokyo Medical and Dental University in 2001. Following his doctoral studies, he worked in the Intellectual Property Department of RIKEN (The Institute of Physical and Chemical Research), where he was involved in intellectual property management, patent strategy, and technology licensing.

He has also served as a Technical Advisor to the Intellectual Property High Court of Japan, providing technical expertise in complex patent litigation and intellectual property disputes.

In 2003, he passed the Japanese Patent Attorney Examination and was admitted as a Japanese Patent Attorney. He subsequently established TSUBAME Patent Attorney Firm and has since assisted Japanese and international clients in obtaining, managing, and enforcing intellectual property rights.

In addition to his professional practice, Dr. Shimbo has published articles on intellectual property and biotechnology in Nature Biotechnology, including “Patent Protection for Protein Structure Analysis” (2004), “The Patentability of Medicinal Inventions Related to Personalized Medicine in Japan” (2005), and “Patent Protection and Access to Genetic Resources” (2008).
